As National Defence Day approaches on September 6, there’s growing conversation on social media about whether or not it will be declared a public holiday this year. Traditionally, this day is dedicated to honoring the military achievements of Pakistan, particularly its defense during the 1965 war with India.
However, according to the latest notifications from the Federal Cabinet Division, September 6 is not listed as an official public holiday. This has led to some speculation, as there’s a chance that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif could still declare it a holiday. This wouldn’t be entirely surprising, considering a similar last-minute announcement was made on May 28 for Youm-e-Takbeer, a day celebrating Pakistan’s nuclear achievements.
While there’s uncertainty around Defence Day, one confirmed public holiday on the horizon is Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), which celebrates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This holiday will fall on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, with the exact date being determined once the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets to sight the moon for Rabi-ul-Awwal, which is expected to be confirmed soon.
Keep an eye out for official updates, as the holiday status for both occasions will become clearer in the coming days!
